Apple and Pear Fruit Compote
Adding sweet spice to this fruit compote lifts it to a new level and is a delicious accompaniment to pancakes, ice cream or on top of porridge.
- 8 eating apples, peeled, cored and cut into chunks
- 4 bramley apples, peeled, cored and cut into chunks
- 8 firm pears, peeled, cored and thickly sliced
- 6 tbsp of sugar
- 3 tsps of sweet spice
Put the apples and pears in a pan with the sugar and 50ml water. Bring to a simmer, then gently cook, covered, for 15 mins or so until the Bramley apple has collapsed to a purée and the eating apple and pear are tender. Keep stirring to avoid it catching on the bottom of the pan.
Will keep in the fridge for a few days. See our pancake recipe here.
