Pumpkin Recipes
At this time of year, many thoughts - especially in young minds! - turn to Halloween and the joys of picking & carving pumpkins.
Pumpkin Recipes are increasing in popularity as we realise that pumpkins don't have to go to waste but can make a variety of tasty pumpkin recipes including pumpkin soup, pumpkin pie and even pumpkin bread.
Did you know that half of the 24 million pumpkins carved for Halloween in the UK in the next few weeks won't be eaten and that almost 2 million will be thrown into normal rubbish waste rather than composted? (Reported in The Guardian)
Pumpkins used to just be grown mainly for carving but now there are a huge variety of culinary pumpkins that are incredibly flavoursome, with different textures for different cooking purposes, and even the flesh from those big carving pumpkins can, at the very least, be turned into a tasty pumpkin soup.
