Homemade Curry made Easy

Easy homemade curry and curry recipes

Homemade Curry

Ever made the intention to make a homemade curry to be immediately put off by the long list of spice ingredients that you need?

The long ingredients list of all the spices can be off putting, especially when you want to create a quick meal or if you are not sure what spices you have in your store cupboard. Our spice blends combine a number of spices and are designed to have the perfect balance, often resulting in a better curry!  They also seriously reduce the cooking time as there is no need to measure out all the individual spices then roast and grind the spices.

Choosing and Storing Your Curry Powder

Curry Powders and Spice blends can contain a lot of salt, so if this is important to you, check the ingredients of your favorite brand. It's also worth noting that the flavour (and colour) of spices can deplete quite quickly if they are exposed to sunlight so it's worth storing them in a dark cupboard or a container that does not let in the light.  A good quality curry powder will have lots of aroma and should hit you with a gorgeous, fresh, spicy smell as soon as you open it.

Quick Curry

One of the longest parts to making a really good curry is cooking the onions.  We love cooking shortcuts but this is one step that we recommend that you do not rush.  Whilst the onions are cooking (around 10 minutes), use this time to prepare the other ingredients for your curry.  Peel and chop up your vegetables or chicken; rinse your lentils; chop the coriander.

Cook the onions on a medium heat. They should be soft, translucent and starting to slightly brown at the edges.  This really helps with the overall flavour of the curry.  Do this bit slowly and then the rest is super easy!

The other short cut you can make when making a homemade curry is to use frozen onions, frozen ginger and frozen garlic.  No peeling or chopping again cuts down the cooking time of making homemade, simple curry.
